Responsive Design

2023

Year - 2023

Project - This is a project that I completed to test my responsive design skills swell as my coding skills.

Brief - The goal of this project was to create a single landing page for a gym where the user gets to interact and register for a service. It taps into visual design principles, colour theory, typography and user experience. But the project focuses on responsive design.

Summary - In the end I successfully created a gym website that translated the intended visual impressions and values. The page is completely responsive going from desktop view to tablet and finally to phone view.

Research

What - For this project I choose to create a website for a power yoga gym. To create a realistic representation of this I conducted a thorough research process of power yoga. Power yoga, which is also known as Vinyasa yoga, is a fast-paced style of yoga that's focused on building strength and endurance. It is also an excellent form of yoga for burning calories. Power yoga is a more dynamic version of traditional yoga it s faster, more intense and the focus is more on building strength and less on meditation or chanting. And while in yoga there s a fixed set of asanas, in power yoga teachers have more flexibility in terms of arranging postures according to their preferences. Since power yoga is more physically demanding, it is more enjoyable for those who are fit like athletes and sportsmen. Power yoga enthusiasts say it enhances stamina, flexibility and better focus. Like any other physical activity, it relieves the body of tension and sweating helps release toxins. It is also said to improve posture and help those with backache and spinal problems by restructuring bone structure. Today about 70% of yoga practitioners are women.

Based on my research I created this colour palette and logo:

Who - I want this gym to be marketed towards both men and women, who want to build strength and stamina, but don't want the usual gym workout. Instead they want a calming environment to get away from their hectic lives.

Keywords -
-
Serious : The colour palette will play a big part when bringing light to all the keywords. A lot of black and white will give the page a more serious feel.
- Strong: Here again the colour palette comes into play. A strong contrast of colour agains black and white will give the sence of strength, something bold. Also a font is inportant here. The headlines will be thick and sharp to create a feeling of strength.
- Calm: Here I want to introduce another colour into the colour palette, a softer and earthy colour perhaps to create that feeling of calmness. I also want to keep the layout very simple and minimalistic to create that airy feel. The pictures will also be selected very carefully. I want to include pictures where strong muscles are visible, in calm yoga poses and in a black & white or very neutral colour-way.

Benchmarking - I also executed an extensive benchmarking process where I looked at other succesful gym websites, where I identified key elements for an impactful landing page.
