Mitt Universitet - Course in Digital accessibility
Brief - This is a project that I completed as a final project on my course in digital accessibility at Mitt Universitet. For my final project, I chose to create a descriptive document that one can refer to when creating digital content to review if it meets accessibility standards. The idea for this project came from my job where I work internally for a consulting company. Here, I have worked a lot with their website and digital media where they give out various information to their employees as well as their customers. There are many people here who create digital material that is published in various channels. In order to ensure that these materials stay within the framework of web guidelines and accessibility standards, I realized the need for a practical descriptive document.
Summary - My hope is that this document can serve as a resource for my colleagues and myself, which would not only facilitate the creation of our digital content but also provide my colleagues with insights to develop their own knowledge. Through this project, I hope not only to create a more inclusive digital environment internally, but also to motivate and inspire a wider understanding and commitment to digital accessibility. The dokument Is linked below, please take a look as is is a very important topic.
Document summary
My final work contains
- An introduction to digital accessibility and the importance of creating inclusive content.
- I chose to include short descriptions of relevant Swedish laws and standards that may be useful to know. Especially since this will be used for a business purpose.
- I have also explained various disabilities and how these can and do affect digital interaction.
- I chose to include a segment that explains both Universal Design and WCAG as they are major accessibility principles that are very relevant to those striving for digital accessibility.
- After this, I have gone into more detail about what to think about when creating digital content. I covered topics as “klarspråk”, typography and readability, use of contrast, images and graphic design, as well as how to create accessible documents.
- After this, I included various tools that you can use to test and evaluate your content based on accessibility standards.
- I included a segment with additional resources and references where you can read further on the subject. I really wanted to encourage readers of the document to read on for themselves.
- After this, I chose to include a checklist that you can check back on when creating accessible content. This list summarizes the most important information, which is why I chose to place it so far down in the document precisely because it is important that the reader understands the subject and not just quickly tick off a list without understanding the importance of each tick.
- At the end of the document I also have a conclusion to end on a happy and inspiring point and then a list of sources.
